Upcoming Festivals in Scotland
Visiting Scotland is such a joy. The friendliness of the Scots people is known worldwide; they welcome visitors with open arms. We love Scotland for its people, its beautiful geography and its fantastic festivals. To be in Scotland for one of its famous festivals is a real treat, so check out the following festivals and plan your trip around one or two.
The World Pipe Band Championships
This August, more than 8000 pipers, drummers and highland dancers will come to Glasgow to compete for the World Pipe Band Championship. Bands from sixteen different nations including Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, and Pakistan will travel to Scotland this year for the event.
Piping Live
This week-long celebration of piping culture offers everything from traditional Piobaireachd to contemporary bands, all lined up to represent the international world of piping. Held in Glasgow in August, the Piping Live celebration has free events in George Square including: a display from the Edinburgh Military Tattoo , three days of family events at the National Piping Center, and a full week of amazing evening events at venues around the city, including the Gaelic Concert and the return of the After Worlds Shindig.
Edinburgh Military Tattoo
In August, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo will celebrate over fifty years of music and spectacle. Set against the world famous backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, the Edinburgh Military Tatoo brings performers from over forty countries playing, marching, and dancing in the floodlit night. Every night is a spectacle with fireworks topping off the displays.
Whisky Festival
With almost 200 events during the 2008 Whisky Festival, there will be something for everyone, from whisky tastings and traditional Ceilidhs to family events. The Festival is held in Speyside.
