About London
London can be somewhat overwhelming, especially to new visitors, but there is much to see and do in the United Kingdom’s bustling capital city. Inquire with the Concierge at your hotel about purchasing tickets for a hop-on hop-off bus tour. You might first decide to enjoy a ride on the London Eye. This enormous Ferris wheel, built for the 2000 Millennium celebration, towers over the Thames River and offers panoramic views of the city and its neighborhoods as well as the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Kew gardens and Royal Botanic Gardens, and the Tower of London.
Watch the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace at half past eleven which includes the Marching Guards unit, the mounted Palace Guards in their colorful uniforms and tall hats, and also the Royal Guards band. This tradition dates back to Henry VII. Her Majesty the Queen is in residence if you see the Royal flag flying on the flagpole atop the palace.
Visit museums such as the British Museum and Imperial war Museum along with other nearby historic sites such as Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, and the West End theatre district. In bustling Piccadilly Circus to the Covent Garden areas enjoy dozens of colorful cafes, delis, bakeries, and shops including the renowned Harrod’s Department store.
London will impress you with its history, beauty and modernity. Once you get to know London, you’ll want to return again and again.
