OpenSkies Airlines, a subsidiary of British Airways, is offering an introductory special to promote their new flights from NYC to Amsterdam beginning October 15. At this time they fly only between NYC and Paris.

For three days only, you’ll be able to get outstanding fares from British Airways US gateways to London and select cities in Europe. You have until July 17, 2008 to book for travel September 4th through October 22, 2008, but the catch is that you have to book through your travel agent.

Look for more choices and cheaper flights to Europe when the Open Skies agreement comes into effect on March 30, 2008. This agreement makes it possible for airlines to fly across the Atlantic between any two airports, where in the past they could only fly to specific countries determined by separate agreements.
The Open Skies agreement will open the way for US airlines to fly directly to more European countries. It will also allow European airlines to set up hubs outside their own country, which will provide more competition amongst European carriers.

On Monday, Paris air traffic controllers began a strike which is likely to last through Friday. The strike will cause disruption to both Roissy Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.

Don’t panic….yet. The United Airlines new baggage policy that allows one free bag and charges $25 for the second bag applies only to domestic flights. So, if you are traveling to Europe, you can still take 2 pieces of luggage (that weigh under 50 pounds each) and not pay extra.

Alitalia Airlines has announced new, non-stop service to Rome from Chicago (CHI), Boston (BOS), Miami (MIA) and New York (NYC) beginning March 30.

American Airlines will offer daily, nonstop flights between New York’s Kennedy Airport and Barcelona, Spain, beginning April 24. The outbound flight is scheduled to depart Kennedy at 7 p.m., arriving in Barcelona at 9:10 a.m.; inbound service departs Barcelona at 11:10 a.m. and arrives in New York at 1:45 p.m. Flights feature two-class service aboard Boeing 767-300 aircraft, with 30 seats in Next Generation Business Class and 191 in Economy/Coach Class.
