He believes that everyone should have the opportunity to travel, and he focuses on high-value restaurants, hotels, and experiences. He tries to show that you don’t necessarily have to be rich to live richly. Mattie writes travel guides for Northstar Travel Media, LLC as well as articles for Europe Up Close. His articles have been syndicated by the Chicago Sun Times, Reuters Business Travel, and USA Today, and his writing and photographs have appeared on Italylogue.com, Gearupandplay.com, i-Italy Magazine, The Believer, Total Tattoo, Skin & Ink, and others. Mattie lives in Portland Oregon, where he runs Hip Nana’s Supper Club with the love of his life, Kristin Kearns. The supper club is dedicated to sharing southern Italian culture as it was taught to him in its kitchens. Always looking for adventure, he spent the 2010 grape harvest making Pinot Noir in Oregon.

He was born and raised in the small fishing village of Milbridge, Maine. He received a B.A. in Philosophy from Bard College, and he has worked at The Believer Magazine and ZYZZYVA Literary Journal.
