Deciding where to stay in Naples, Italy isn’t as easy as in most European cities. Naples has some iffy neighborhoods, rife with pickpockets. These neighborhoods are also home to incredible pizzerias, mom and pop stores, and ancient churches; and they give Naples its vibrant atmosphere. Naples has so many things to do, making it one of my favorite cities in the world.

So, we’ve compiled a list of hotel recommendations taking safety into consideration. Further, to help you choose where to stay in Naples, our hotel recommendations are listed by star rating, from 5-star luxury hotels to budget hotels, B&Bs, and hostels. Grand Hotel Vesuvio
The list of world leaders and celebrities who have stayed in this hotel is extensive. An incredible location, an exceptional staff, and luxurious accommodations make this the best 5-star option in Naples.

Located on Naples’s waterfront overlooking Castel dell’Ovo, the hotel offers classical décor and great views. Every room has fine linen sheets, a mini bar, an exclusive line of body care products, heating and air conditioning, safe, WiFi (at a charge), and satellite TV.

Part of Marriott International, this hotel is centrally located and guests will find that the Via Toledo shopping district, the main ferry terminal, and many of the most important sights are within walking distance.

The hotel provides a luxurious atmosphere and modern rooms. All rooms feature free WiFi, air conditioning, room safe, mini bar, soundproof windows, and international satellite TV.

Breakfast is served on the roof in good weather, with views of Mt. Vesuvius, Naples Bay, and Castel Nuovo. Note that this hotel does not have an elevator. Continental breakfast included.

This boutique hotel has a great location just off of Via Toledo, and is close to major sights, shopping, and the ferry terminal which is within walking distance.

Decumani Hotel de Charme
Promoted as “the first Cultural Hotel in Naples,” this hotel offers professional service and classically decorated rooms for a great price.

Conveniently located in the historic city center (Il Centro Storico), the hotel is surrounded by many of Naples’s most famous churches and within walking distance of many sights and the ferry terminal.

The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. All rooms come with free WiFi, and a buffet breakfast is included. Ask for a room with a balcony. When booking, if particularly sensitive to noise, alert the hotel’s reception and they’ll find you the right room.

Grand Hotel Europa – Sea Hotels Group
This hotel is a good option for travelers who want an elegant hotel near the main train station and who are planning on making day trips to Pompeii or the Amalfi Coast.

It offers clean rooms and professional service for prices much lower than most European hotel’s of its standard. All rooms have air conditioning, free WiFi, a safe, and satellite TV. This hotel is a 20-minute walk from the historic city center and a 40-minute walk from many Neapolitan sights, such as Piazza Plebiscito. The nearby neighborhood is run down but there are lively markets during the day. Do not walk in the area after 11pm: take a taxi.

Hotel Il Convento
This hotel is comfortable and clean and comes at a good value. Located just a few blocks from Via Toledo in the Quartieri Spagnoli neighborhood, it is close to many shopping options, restaurants, and important sights, including Teatro di San Carlo and Galleria Umberto I.

All rooms have satellite TV, a mini bar, coffee and tea making facilities, air conditioning, a safe, and a small balcony. Free WiFi is offered in the breakfast room.

Where to Stay in Naples: Budget Hotels in Naples

Hostel Pensione Mancini
This hostel is ideal for budget travelers who want to stay near the train station. The building is a bit dilapidated but the beds and facilities are clean. The staff is friendly and shows particular concern for their guests’ well being.

Private rooms are offered as well as dorms, and all rooms have free WiFi. There is a fully equipped kitchen, and a small breakfast is included. Travelers should not wander alone in the surrounding neighborhood after 11pm.

B&B in Naples

I 34 Turchi Bed & Breakfast
Located in one of the most desirable locations in Naples (right on the waterfront near Castello Dell’Ovo), this B&B combines a comfortable apartment with friendly service.

The apartment is spacious and can accommodate up to five people. It has two floors and features a queen-sized bed, fully equipped kitchen, heating, and satellite TV. The owners also provide several options for activities, including cooking classes, a tour of the markets, and gastronomy tours. Prices are competitive. Book early.
