Aigues Mortes, a picturesque, medieval town in the heart of the Camargue, was founded in the 13th century by St. Louis, King of France. The town was fortified to guard against the Sarrasins in the 100 years’ war, and in the 16th century from the Spanish assailants. Today it is a delightful town that is proud of its past while enjoying its present. Learn more about this area’s Roman Past .
