Passports with Purpose: Build a Library and Win a Kindle Fire
This year we have decided to throw our support behind Passports With Purpose (PwP), the travel bloggers annual fundraiser, and we would like to tell you why.
The cause this year is Room to Read. Supporting an early childhood literacy project goes right to the heart of what we love – reading and writing. The goal is to raise $80,000 to build two libraries in southern and eastern Zambia through Room to Read’s Reading Room program. The groundwork building up to establishing these two libraries has begun and full establishment will occur mid-2012. Funds raised for the libraries will cover the costs of constructing the building, all the library resources, such as books and educational materials, teacher training and three years of support. After that, the library is handed over to the government school system.
As travel bloggers, we love to read and we love to write about our travels. We want to give young children the foundation for doing what they love when they grow up, and we all know that learning to read provides that foundation. Room to Read is a worthy cause and we think that offering a Kindle Fire as our prize supports our love of the written word.
