Berwick upon Tweed, on the North Side of the river Tweed, is in fact legally in Scotland. The English Parliament did a constituency change in the 1880's which included Berwick in the Northumbrian rolls, but it has not, and can not be part of England - legally anyway - suggest you correct the page after verification.

Hi Brian,

It appears that you may need a visa. Here is a website that can help determine that and gives information on obtaining a visa.

Good day

I would like to tour the Scottish country, including Glasgow and the England/Scottish border,
Will I need any visa as I'm South African passport holder?
I need to make sure I prepare myself and family adequately before we leave!

Thanks

Another "great" sight around (more exactly at) the English-Scottish Border: Carter Bar. A classical tourist picture!

Hi Tom,
We appreciate your comments. Ours is an evolving site and we add new information daily. I'd love to learn more of the Border Reivers. If you are interested in writing up a little history for us, we'd be happy to publish it.

I appreciate that this is a site covering a vast amount of information and needs to cater for all tastes and interests.
I would have liked to have seen a mention of the Border Reivers in any exploration of the English Scottish Borders.
Their history is unique in British history and their fortified homes are dotted all over the area, some ruins, some lived in today. I am sure they would be of interest to tourists especially if they have a name which originated in the Borders, i.e Armstrong, Turnbull, Scott, Charlton, Milburn, Home or Rutherford and many, many more.
Their history covers over 500 years, starts with the creation of the Border Line, is intensified in the battle for supremacy between the two countries in the Scottish Wars of Independence and wanes with the Union of the Crowns in 1603.
There are both wonderful walks which take in their history as well as circular routes for the motorist.
Sorry, just had to say this, being a great lover of Border history,

Regards,
Tom. http://www.reivershistory.co.uk
